Jenet Simmons is a graduate student in the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Grand Canyon University. She is developing her clinical identity through a trauma-informed, developmentally responsive, and culturally attuned framework, with a strong desire to serve children, adolescents, and young adults as they navigate identity development, emotional regulation, and life transitions.
Jenet approaches counseling from an empathic and client-centered perspective, grounded in authenticity, honesty, and the importance of family systems. She considers herself a natural helper and lifelong learner. Central to her work is fostering self-acceptance, emotional safety, and a strengthened sense of personal agency.
Her professional experiences include working with marginalized populations, which strengthened her commitment to advocacy, culturally responsive care, and meeting clients with dignity and compassion across diverse life circumstances. Additionally, her background in teaching informs her psychoeducational approach, particularly when helping youth build resilience, coping skills, and emotional literacy. Jenet’s theoretical orientation primarily draws from Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), integrating relational warmth with evidence-based skill building to support adaptive change.
Jenet is currently completing her clinical training under the supervision of licensed professionals as part of her practicum and internship experience. In her spare time, Jenet enjoys spending time with her family and friends, serving at her church, participating in Bible study, exercise, traveling, reading, and cooking.
