Parents

“Play is really the work of childhood.”

 ~Fred Rogers

Parenthood is the greatest journey that we ever take. It’s also a journey filled with detours and surprise destinations. Parents come to our practice looking for guidance and support when the road seems littered with obstacles. We work with neuro-typical and neuro-divergent children using research based effective methods to engage them and help them discover their own strengths.

We provide parents with skills to communicate with their children and tools to advocate for their children when necessary. Through our counseling sessions with the child and my school support services for the parents, we provide a clear path to hope and healing.

Play Therapy

“What is Play Therapy?”

Play Therapy is a lot how it sounds. Most children need a safe place to open up and share. Many aren’t comfortable sitting across the room for an adult who that don’t really know. Play Therapy allows us to connect with the child through a game or activity. As we play together, the child relaxes and becomes more willing to share their struggles. Sometimes they may share by talking to us and sometimes they share by using play.

Autplay

“What is Autplay?”

Autplay is a form of therapy focusing on neurodiverse populations. It includes models of play therapy as well as more direct counseling for both the child and the parent. Children struggling from mental health issues will work with us and their parent who will be trained on Autplay techniques.

What are the ages served?

Autplay serves children as young as 3 up to the age of 12.

Why are parents involved?

You are your child’s first and best teacher. We are merely a guide and facilitator of science based techniques created to support your child and their struggles. Because your child needs a consistent daily routine, it’s important the the Autplay techniques continue outside of therapy sessions. Your child’s long term success relies on continued practice of their newly acquired skills.

What are the goals of AutPlay?

Depending on the child and parent needs, Autplay goals can vary. The most common goals of Autplay are the following:

  • Acquisition of general social skills
  • Understanding of common social cues
  • Increased emotional regulation
  • Better communication skills
  • Strengthening of parent-child bond

If your child is neurodivergent, you can learn skills to help them live a happier and more productive life. As a parent of neurodivergent children, we know how isolating it can feel for you and your child. Autplay is a step towards new skills to help your child navigate in any situation.
